X-Women defeat Mounties in overtime

Sackville, NB – The StFX X-Women needed overtime to defeat the Mount Allison Mounties 2-1 Friday night at the Tantramar Community Centre. X-Women forward Daley Oddy netted the game winner 37 seconds into the extra frame for the win.

Mounties goaltender Keri Martin was busy in her net as the X-Women held a lopsided 64-16 shot margin in the game as Martin posted 62 saves.

After a hard fought first period, StFX came out ahead with a 1-0 lead against the home team Mounties. With six minutes left in the period, forward Lindsay Donovan sniped one past Martin. Santana Gravelle assisted on the play as the X-Women outshot the Mounties 15-9 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second period again saw StFX dominate in shots, 20-4, as both teams were plagued with penalties, but the Mountie held their own and kept the score at 1-0 for the X-Women.

Mounties captain and Subway player of the game Heather Richards evened the match 12 minutes into the third period, scoring on a breakaway. The game remained tied, despite the X-Women outshooting the Mounties 28-3 in the final period, and headed to overtime.  

A quick 37 seconds into overtime, X-Women captain Daley Oddy scored to clinch the overtime win for StFX. She picked up a wide shot by Gravelle and pounced on the uck oputting in high into the top corner.

The victory marked StFX's eighth win of the season, giving them an 8-1-0 record, while the Mounties second overtime loss drops them to 1-7-2.

Mount Allison will be back on home ice Sunday afternoon as they host the Saint Mary's Huskies at 3:30 pm. The X-Women will be at home on Saturday evening for a 7:00 pm against the Dalhousie Tigers.
