Big second period lifts X-Women over Mounties

Sackville, NB - The Mount Allison Mounties gave up five second period goals en route to a 7-1 loss to StFX on Saturday night.

The Mounties actually opened the scoring just two and half minutes into the game when Kelly Matarazzo scored on the power play. StFX's Sarah Bujold tied the game at 1-1 when she potted her first of four goals on the night at 11:34 of the first period.

The X-Women struck quickly to open the second period when Connor Garagan walked out from the corner and beat Keri Martin.  From there it was four more unanswered second period goals that allowed StFX to take control of the game. Goals by Sarah Johnson shorthanded at 3:45, Jenna MacDonald at 6:55 and Sarah Bujold at 7:55 gave the X-Women a 5-1 lead. 

Bujold scored her third of the game with one minute remaining in the second period, and she added her fourth with three minutes left in the third period.

The win moves the X-Women to 3-3 while the Mounties fall to 1-4.  The Mounties travel to UPEI on Sunday for a 6:00 pm game with the Panthers. The X-Women next see action on Saturday, November 3rd at UPEI.
