Tigers nip X-Women in shootout

Liverpool, N.S. - The Dalhousie Tigers nipped the StFX X-Women 3-2 in a shootout Friday evening as both teams took to the ice for the first time in pre-season exhibition action.

Taylor Reichheld, the fifth shooter in the shootout, scored the game winner for the Tigers, her second of the night.

Ashley Money opened the scoring in the game at 17:07 of the first period, from Rachel Carr and Danika Phillips. 

Reichheld then extended the Tigers lead with a second period goal at 6:35, assisted by Carr and Corinne Desjardins.

The X-Women cut into the lead at 11:27 of the second frame as Kara Power found the back of the net, connecting on a play from Daley Oddy and Lydia Schurman.

StFX outshot the Tigers 20-14 through 40 minutes of action. They continued to press in the third period and Emily Power scored the equalizer while on the power play at 4:39. Lindsey Donovan and Nicole Halladay had the helpers.

Despite outshooting the Tigers 11-2 in the final period the score remained knotted at 2-2. Overtime solved nothing and Reichheld was the shootout hero for the Dalhousie victory.

Mati Barrett earned the win in the Tigers net with 32 saves as final shots in the game favored the X-Women 34-18.

Pascale Daigle and Carley Molnar handled the goaltending duties for StFX.

The X-Women next see action on Thursday, Sept. 29th when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies at the Keating Centre auxiliary arena in another pre-season exhibition match-up. Game time is 7:00 pm.
