Aigles Bleues blank X-Women 4-0

MONCTON, N.B. – The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (15-6-1) scored two empty net goals at the end of the game to register a 4-0 shutout victory over the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women (9-10-3) Sunday afternoon at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Aigles Bleues have won their last seven consecutive games and are now tied for top spot in the AUS conference standings with Saint Mary's (15-6-1). The X-Women dropped their second game in as many days, losing 3-2 in a shootout yesterday to Mount Allison.

Roxanne Turcotte scored the game winning goal at 14:49 of the second period, from Natacha Bergeron and Katherine Dubuc.

The game was fast paced with many scoring opportunities and it was Natacha Bergeron (unassisted), at 18:12 of the third period, who gave Moncton some breathing room with their second goal of the game.

Marie-Pier Arsenault at 19:00 and Amélie Dion, 45 seconds later, both scored unassisted empty net goals to put the game away for Moncton.

Émilie Bouchard, the Subway player of the game, registered her fourth shutout win of the season in the Moncton net, and second in a row against the X-Women. She faced 29 shots, including a number from up close.

Sojung Shin played the first two periods in net for the X-Women and had 22 saves while Pascale Daigle turned aside 11 pucks in the third period. Each netminder allowed one goal against.

The Aigles Bleues will next see action when they host St. Thomas on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4:00 pm in their final regular season home game. They will then close out the season on the road on Sunday in Halifax against Dalhousie.

The X-Women will play Dalhousie on Thursday evening, Feb. 11th at 7:30 pm at the Halifax Forum. They finish out AUS regular season play on Saturday in Charlottetown against the UPEI Panthers.
