CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#19)

OTTAWA (CIS) – The University of Toronto Varsity Blues and University of Alberta Pandas are tied for No. 1 in this week's CIS women's volleyball rankings.

The undefeated Varsity Blues (17-0), who will host the 2015 CIS championship presented by Canuck Stuff from Feb. 26 to March 1, had never topped the national coaches' poll before this week. The Pandas (17-5) had topped eight straight polls earlier this season before being dethroned by UBC Okanagan two weeks ago. UBC-O (17-5) falls to No. 3 in the new rankings.

In other CIS sports, Windsor (women's basketball), Ottawa (men's basketball), Montreal (women's hockey), Alberta (men's hockey), McMaster (men's volleyball), UBC (women's & men's swimming), Toronto (women's track & field), Guelph (men's track & field), Brock (women's wrestling) and Fraser Valley (men's wrestling) all hold on to their No. 1 status.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the coming weekend, the top two teams in CIS men's basketball square off in the nation's capital Friday at 8 p.m. for the ninth annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic at Canadian Tire Centre.

The top-ranked Gee-Gees (14-0) put their unblemished record on the line against the No. 2 Carleton Ravens (12-2). Ottawa prevailed 68-66 in the first head-to-head meeting of the season on Jan. 10 but the last time the rivals met at the CTC, last March, Carleton came out on top 79-67 in the CIS championship match to capture its fourth straight national title.
