Halifax, NS – Third year forward Kara Power was the shootout hero for the StFX X-Women as they defeated Saint Mary's 2-1 in Halifax Wednesday evening.

The CIS ranked No. 6 team improved to 20-1-0 atop the AUS conference with their 20th consecutive victory of the 2014-15 AUS season.

Power, second overall in AUS scoring, notched her 12th goal of the season in the game that required extra play.

After a scoreless first period, the teams exchanged second period goals. Laura Polak scored on the power play for the Huskies at 16:16 from Janelle Rogers and Caitlyn Manning.

X-Women captain Taylor Dale then replied at 19:26 to even the game at one goal apiece. Jenna MacDonald and Heather Tillsley had the helpers.

The game remained deadlocked throughout the third period, despite key scoring chances from each side. A ten minute overtime period solved nothing, setting the stage for the shootout and Power's game winner.

Sojung Shin collected her 13th win of the season in the StFX net, posting 40 saves.

Justine McIntosh was tagged with the loss for SMU, who outshot the X-Women 41-31.

Next on the AUS schedule for the Huskies(9-10-2) is a Friday evening match in Fredericton against the St. Thomas Tommies (9-9-3).

The X-Women will play host the second place Aigles Bleues de Moncton (14-4-2) Saturday afternoon at the StFX Keating Centre. Game time is 2:00 pm.
