Antigonish, NS - The CIS ranked No. 9 StFX X-Women returned to action after the Christmas break on a winning note with a 4-2 exhibition victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday afternoon at the Keating Centre.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the second period, the blue and white scored four unanswered goals to secure the win.

The Huskies scored the lone goal of the first period with Kaylan Palsat (Bonnyville, AB) beating Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) off a goal mouth scramble. Selby Jessiman (Brandon, MB) and Jenelle Rogers (Marystown, NL) notched assists on the marker, which came at the 6:57 mark.

Saint Mary's jumped to a 2-0 advantage early in the second period when Haylee Tretiak (Tuelon, MB) beat Shin high blocker side after completing a two-on-one breakaway with Jessiman at the 2:25 mark.

The X-Women sliced the lead in half at 12:57 when Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) intercepted a Huskies pass and broke in on Rebecca Weagle (Lunenburg, NS). She engineered a nifty deke on the goaltender before depositing a backhander into an open net for a shorthanded goal.

At 17:46, Alex Normore (Bedford, NS) tallied the equalizer shortly after the conclusion of an X-Women powerplay. Linemates Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC) and Power notched assists on the even strength goal.

The X-Women took their first lead at the 38 second mark of the third period on the second goal of the game from Normore. She won an offensive zone face-off before walking by her defender and roofing a backhander over Weagle. The goal was unassisted.

Power - with her second - completed the scoring with an empty-netter at 18:56 on an assist from Nicole Corcoran (Bloomfield, PE).

The three stars of the game were Normore, Power and Jessiman.

Both teams will be back on the ice tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon in a rematch in Halifax. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
