X-Women edge Tommies 4-3

Fredericton, NB - With a road win over the St. Thomas Tommies (3-4) Saturday afternoon, the CIS ranked No. 10 StFX X-Women (6-1) won their sixth consecutive regular season game in AUS hockey action.

Jenna MacDonald (Osgoode, ON), on an assist from Lisa Downey (Stratford, ON), opened the scoring at 2:17 of the first period.

At 9:35, the Tommies tied the game 1-1 on a penalty shot goal from Kelty Apperson.

St. Thomas took their first lead at 17:28 of the first period, with Becky Conner scoring on assists from Stephanie Ford and Teah Anderson.

Schyler Campbell (Galloway, NB) of StFX had the lone goal of the second period to tie the score after 40 minutes. Kira Dube (Calgary, AB) and captain Taylor Dale (Oromocto, NB) notched the assists for the X-Women. 

At 4:34 of the third period, the Tommies took the lead on a goal from Alisha Gilbert, with assists from Paige MacDonald and Conner.

Campbell, with her second of the game, knotted the contest 3-3. Nicole Halladay (Smith Falls, ON) and Dale garnered the assists at the 6:12 mark.

At 7:40, Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) tallied the game-winner from Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC) and Alex Normore (Bedford, NS).

Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) earned the win, while Taylor Cook took the loss.

The X-Women outshot the Tommies 36-23.

The three stars of the game were Dale, Campbell and Conner.

The X-Women return to action Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9) when they visit Sackville, NB, to face the Mount Allison Mounties.

Game time is 2 p.m.
