X-Women handle Huskies 6-1

Antigonish, NS - The StFX X-Women have extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-1 victory over the rival Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS hockey action Sunday afternoon at the Keating Centre. The Huskies fall to 3-3 on the season.

The blue and white jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period. At 2:31, Alex Normore (Bedford, NS) made it 1-0 on an assist from Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC).

The X-Women then scored back-to-back powerplay goals 26 seconds apart to extend their advantage. At 11:54, captain Taylor Dale (Oromocto, NB), on assists from Connor Garagan (Fredericton, NB) and Normore, doubled the StFX lead to 2-0. Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS), unassisted, made it 3-0 at the 12:20 mark.

The X-Women outshot the Huskies 14-5 in the first period.

Normore, with her third point of the game, gave the X-Women a 4-0 lead with 3:35 remaining in the second period. Power had the lone assist.

In the third period, StFX outscored Saint Mary's 2-1. At 4:53, Garagan, from Dale, extended the X-Women margin to 5-0. An unassisted goal from Oddy rounded out the scoring for the X-Women at the 12:11 mark.

With 3:06 left in the game, Rebecca Johnson (Stoney Creek, ON) broke up the Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) shutout bid to make it 6-1. Selby Jessiman (Brandon, MB) assisted on the Huskies goal.

Shin made 20 saves for the win, while Rebecca Weagle (Lunenburg, NS) blocked 27 shots in the loss.

The three stars of the game were Oddy, Dale and Saint Mary's Haylee (Teulon, MB).

The Huskies will return to action Friday, Nov. 7, when they host the UPEI Panthers in Halifax. The X-Women will skate against the St. Thomas Tommies (Saturday, Nov. 8) and Mount Allison Mounties (Sunday, Nov. 9) as part of a weekend New Brunswick road trip.
