X-Women shutout Panthers

The StFX X-Women improved to 15-3-2 on the season with a 3-0 shutout over the UPEI Panthers Wednesday night at the Keating Centre

The CIS ranked No. 8 X-Women were led by Subway player of the game Kara Power who scored all three goals for a natural hat trick on the evening, along with goaltender Sojung Shin who posted 25 saves for her ninth win of the season and fourth shutout.

StFX netted one goal in each period against the Panthers.

Power opened the scoring at 7:49 of the first period, beating Panthers goaltender Courtney Arseneau with high shot on her blocker side on a pass fed by Erin Brophy. Jenna Pitts also assisted on the play.

Power then gave the X-Women a 2-0 lead with a power play goal midway through the second period. She got her stick on a puck that deflected in past Arseneau. CIS leading scorer Alex Normore and Molly MacDonald had the helpers.

Both Normore and MacDonald had five shots a piece on the evening.

StFX dominated much of the puck possession in the second period, outshooting the Panthers 12-2 as they were unable to mount many scoring chances.

Power wrapped up the X-Women scoring just 1:47 into the third period as she picked up a Daley Oddy pass and brought the puck into the zone and beat Arseneau through the five-hole.

The X-Women ended up with 28 shots in the game to the Panthers 25.

They currently sit in first place in the AUS conference, four points ahead of second place Saint Mary's.

Next on the schedule is a Saturday evening game in Halifax against the Dalhousie Tigers. Game time is 7:00 pm. The Panthers will host the Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
