Hockey X-Women win 2 at home
The CIS nationally ranked #6 X-Women hockey team regained their winning ways at home this past weekend with a decisive 10-3 win over the UPEI Panthers and a 3-0 win over the St. Thomas Tommies.
\r\nFriday night the Panthers provided the opposition at the StFX Keating Centre, and the hometown X-Women jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and didn’t look back as they scored three more goals in the second period and four in the third frame to cruise to the 10-3 victory.
\r\nVeteran forwards Brayden Ferguson, Kelly Boudreau and Christina Davis each scored two goals a piece for the X-Women while single markers came off the sticks of Carolyn Campbell, Jacinta Sullivan, Marilynn Hay and Catie Gavin. Laura Grant had five assists in the game for X.
\r\nReplying for the Panthers was Janelle Parent, Genna Phalen and Amber Gaudette.
\r\nStFX out shot their opponents by a 46-18 margin and Melissa Murphy earned the win with 15 saves. Elizabeth Legay took the loss for the Panthers.
\r\nOn Sunday afternoon, the game was closer but the X-Women still emerged the victors, shutting out the St. Thomas Tommies 3-0.
\r\nCarolyn Campbell scored two goals in the game and the X-Women played disciplined hockey to earn the win. Campbell scored her first goal to open the scoring in the game at the one minute mark of the second period. Catie Gavin assisted on the play. Lindsay Brown scored a power play goal just a few minutes later off a pass from Brayden Ferguson.
\r\nCampbell’s second goal of the game, came at 16:40 in the third period on the powerplay with assists going to Brown and Laura Grant. Katie Harvieux earned the win in nets for the X-Women, tested with only 8 shots to StFX’s 35. Julia Sharun took the loss for the Tommies.
\r\nThe win marks the final AUS regular season game for the first academic term. The X-Women will hot the road this weekend for a trio of exhibition games against QSSF opponents. Friday they will play the #1 ranked and defending CIS champion McGill Martlets, while Concordia and Ottawa provide the opposition for the remainder of the weekend.
