WOLFVILLE, NS – The Acadia Axewomen defeated the STFX X-Women 94-57 Saturday night at Stu Aberdeen Court after hanging their 2022 AUS championship banner.

This game saw Haley McDonald (Port Williams, NS) pass Paloma Anderson as the Axewomen's all-time leader in points scored with 1460 career points. McDonald was the Subway Player of the Game, putting up 23 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Acadia got out to an early lead, outscoring the X-Women by 10 points in the first quarter that was capped off by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Sandy Saunders (Woodstock, NB).

It was in the second quarter that McDonald claimed the title of top scorer all-time for the Axewomen by hitting a jumper at the elbow. The first-quarter dominance continued into the second as Acadia took a 54-23 lead into halftime.

The Axewomen controlled the glass out-rebounding STFX 50-19. The front court duo of Lizzie Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) and Sarah Delorey (Elmsdale, NS) led the Axewomen in rebounding with 11 rebounds each. This performance on the boards allowed for an impressive 18 second-chance points for Acadia while limiting what showed to be an effective X-Women transition offence (15 points scored off 10 Acadia turnovers).

The Axewomen won every quarter, only giving up their lead twice in the 40 minutes of action.

Melina Collins (Halifax, N.S.) posted a team-high 19 points for the X-Women.

This win takes the Axewomen to 2-0 on the season while the X-Women fall to 0-2. The Axewomen play at UPEI against the Panthers on Saturday, November 5th at 6:00 pm while the X-Women's next game is at Cape Breton on Friday, November 4th at 6:00 pm.
