X-Women defeat Tigers in exhibition action

Halifax, NS – The STFX X-Women closed out pre-season exhibition play with a 67-55 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Sunday afternoon.

With the win STFX now has a 2-2 pre-season record.

The blue and white got out to a sluggish start to Sunday's game, trailing 20-9 after the first quarter, but then went on a 14-0 run to start the second quarter, holding the Tigers scoreless though the opening six minutes of the frame.

The X-Women lead 34-31 at halftime and did not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the game. They held the Tigers to 11 points in each of the second and third quarters.

Both Aliyah Fraser and Kira Atherley scored 11 points for the X-Women in the win. Atherley also had five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Elizabeth Kennedy scored nine points, as did newcomer Ekaterina Karchevskaya off the bench in her first action with the X squad. Lauren Neeve was the top rebounder with six in the game.

Gracie Dalton lead the Tigers in scoring with 14 points.

The game marks the final one on the pre-season schedule for the X-Women. They will begin AUS regular season play on Wednesday, October 26th when they host the defending AUS champion Acadia Axewomen in a 6:00 pm game at the STFX Saputo Centre.
