X-Women drop close game to Golden Hawks

Waterloo, ON – The StFX X-Women dropped a close 61-52 game to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Friday afternoon in pre-season action in Ontario.

For second year X-Women head coach LeeAnna Osei, the game marked a return to her alma mater, as she played four seasons with the Golden Hawks.

Laurier got out to a 20-16 first quarter lead. The X-Women were able to come back and win the low scoring second quarter 13-11, as the Golden Hawks held a slim 31-29 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Golden Hawks outplay the X-Women 18-13 and they were able to hold on to the lead in the fourth quarter and take the win.

Brianna Lannazzo was the top scorer for Laurier with 19 points and Stephanie Findlay had 17 and added five rebounds.

Briar MacDonald was the top X-Women scorer with 9 points off the bench, and she had 7 rebounds in the game. Fellow freshmen Karina Sarai, Marley Bonnick and Aliyah Fraser each scored 8 points apiece. Bonnick had 7 rebounds and Fraser 8.

The X-Women finish their Ontario exhibition trip with a 1-2 record. They begin AUS regular season play on Saturday, November 2nd in Halifax with a 6:00 pm game against Dalhousie.
