Varsity Blues take exhibition win over X-Women

Toronto - The University of Toronto Varsity Blues recorded their second exhibition win of the season, beating the StFX X-Women 65-52 on Thursday, October 10 at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The Blues led at the end of a defensive first, outscoring the X-Women 9-5. The Blues would go on to hold that lead into the second, heading into halftime ahead by seven, 24-17.

In the third quarter, the Blues offence ignited as both Nada Radonjic and Sarah Bennett put on a show. The Blues notched 22 points to make the score 46-27 going into the fourth.

Despite a late push by the X-Women in the fourth quarter, as the visitors outscored the Blues 25-19, Toronto managed to stay on top and secure the win.

Ellen Ougrinov led the Blues in scoring with 18 points, while Bennett and Radonjic were also in double digits, scoring 17 and 14 points, respectively. Bennett led Toronto's rebounding with 10, while Ougrinov led in assists with seven.

For the X-Women, Marley Bonnick scored 13 points and had seven rebounds. Karina Sarai netted 11 and had five rebounds, while Aliyah Fraser and Briar MacDonald each contributed 10 points.

StFX is now 1-1 on their Ontario exhibition swing and will play Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo at 2:00 pm EDT Friday afternoon.
