Antigonish, NS – The Cape Breton Capers earned a 76-58 victory over the StFX X-Women Wednesday evening at the Oland Centre.

The win improved their record to 10-1 on the season as they moved into sole possession of first place in the AUS standings. The X-Women (0-10) are still looking for their first regular season win.

The Capers got out to a 17-10 lead after the first quarter of play and held onto a similar seven point lead at halftime, 36-29.

Veteran fifth year forward Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) scored 18 points – half of all the Capers points – in the opening half. Jamie McCarron (New Glasgow, NS) was sharp from behind the arc for the X-Women, draining a trio of three-pointers to keep the X-Women within reach.

The third quarter saw the X-Women hang close to the visiting Capers, they were outscored 18-14. McCarron scored another five points for X and Monique Calliste (Toronto, ON) was hot for Cape Breton, netting 11 points.

In the fourth quarter the Capers continued to pull away as they outscored StFX 22-15 on route to the win. Calliste added another eight points in the final quarter as she finished with 20 for the Capers and earned Subway player of the game honours.

Brown led all scorers in the game with 32 points on the night and added 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. Toni Bianchini (Groves Point, NS) scored 11, and Mackenzee Ryan (Glace Bay, NS) added eight points and eight rebounds. Madison Munro (Truro, NS) pulled in nine boards for the Capers.

McCarron led the X-Women in scoring with 14 points and added five rebounds. Kimberly Kingsbury (Nepean, ON) netted 12 and StFX player of the game Leah Fahey (Barrie, ON) scored eight and had seven rebounds. Maggie Segeren (Komoka, ON) contributed seven off the bench for the X-Women.

Both teams will be back in action on the weekend. The X-Women travel to Charlottetown on Friday evening to face the UPEI Panthers, while the Capers will host Acadia Sunday at 1:00 pm in a four-point game.
