X-Women finish MSVU tourney with 2-1 record

Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Women closed out the MSVU Dyrick McDermott Invitational tournament with a 2-1 record after they played to a 63-29 exhibition victory over the University of King's College (UKC) Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils were no match for the AUS squad as the X-Women got out to leads of 22-9 after the first quarter and 35-15 at halftime.

StFX then held the Blue Devils to only eight and six points, respectively in the third and fourth quarters to seal the win.

X-Women player of the game Leah Fahey scored 13 points off the StFX bench and added five rebounds. Kim Kingsbury scored 12 and had nine rebounds and was named to the tournament all-star team for her play over the weekend.

Brianna Gottschall contributed 12 points in the StFX win and Maggie Segeren netted eight and had four steals.

UKC player of the game Jenna Bain scored nine points and had five rebounds, while teammate Isabella Kellerman scored seven.

The X-Women finished the three-day event with a 2-1 record, as did the ACAA all-star team and the Dalhousie Tigers. UKC and St. Thomas were winless with 0-3 records, and the host MSVU squad, with a perfect 3-0 record, were crowned tournament champions.

StFX will resume AUS regular season action on Friday, January 4th when they return to Halifax. They will face the Saint Mary's Huskies in a 6:00 pm game.
