Huskies beat StFX 74-46 in Halifax

(Halifax, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the StFX X-Women 74-46 in Friday night's 'Shoot for the Cure' game - worth four-points in the AUS standings.

Shanieka Wood (Ajax, Ont.) paced all scorers with 20 points and 14 points for Saint Mary's, who improve to 12-4 and sit two points behind Cape Breton (12-3) for tops in the AUS.

The Huskies jumped out in the opening frame and doubled-up the X-Women 18-9 after ten minutes.

An 18-12 second quarter saw the Huskies lead 36-21 at the half.

Saint Mary's used a 23-16 third quarter and increased their lead to 59-37 after 30 minutes.

The final frame saw SMU outscore StFX 15-9 in the quarter with the Huskies taking the 74-46 win.

Holly Scott (Antigonish, N.S.) paced the X-Women with eight points off the bench, who fall to 1-13 with two points.

Katie MacIntosh (Barrie, Ont.) finished with seven points for StFX while Chelsea Provo (East Preston, N.S.) and Kendra Smith (North Preston, N.S.) each had six.

Jenny Lewis (Fall River, N.S.) had 16 points for SMU, while teammates Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, Que.) and Jasmine Cain (Halifax, N.S.) finished with 11 points apiece.

Angelina Carvery added seven (Halifax, N.S.) for Saint Mary's.

StFX trails Dalhousie by four points in the standings and the X-Women host the Tigers February 7th in a four-point game.

Up next for SMU is a February 11th home game versus the 6-8 Acadia Axewomen.

Tip-off for both games is 6 p.m.
