X-Women basketball earn win over MtA in opening game of MSVU tournament

Halifax, NS – The StFX X-Women defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 55-46 in their first game at the Dyrick McDermott Invitational tournament Saturday afternoon.

StFX opened up a 14-7 first quarter lead over their ACAA opponent and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game. They held advantages of 27-19 at half and 44-34 after three quarters.

StFX player of the game Holly Scott was the high scorer of the game with 15 points for the X-Women. She also had three rebounds. Chelsea Provo played a big game for X with a double-double night, scoring 17 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. She also added a pair of steals.

Kim Taylor played well defensively for the X-Women with 11 rebounds.

Replying for the Mounties was Kiersten Mangold with 10 points and eight rebounds and player of the game Jill Harris scored eight points.

The X-Women next see action on Sunday at 4:00 pm when they will play the St. Thomas Tommies.
