Halifax, NS - On Friday night at the Dalplex, the Dalhousie Tigers took down the StFX X-Women 69-57 in AUS women's basketball action. A 9-0 fourth quarter run propelled the Tigers to their first win of 2016.

The StFX X-Women jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first quarter. Marcy Robinson had a nice steal and a fast break bucket to extend the X-Women lead to 15-9.

Megan Thompson cut the StFX lead to 19-16 after hitting a wide-open three ball. The Tigers would add another basket before the end of the quarter, finding themselves down 19-18 at the buzzer.

It was a slow start to the second quarter as neither team really could find their shooting touch. Christina Brown broke the stalemate hitting a baseline jumper from behind the arc to give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 22-21.

The two sides would trade buckets for the rest of the quarter. Lindsay Lessard, who put up 12 points in the first half, had a big offensive rebound and finish for the X-Women to tie the game at 30-30.

Dalhousie headed into the locker room up 32-30 at halftime.

It was all Tigers in the second half as they seemed to kick it into another gear. Tessa Stammberger had 17 points through three quarters while shooting 7-7 from the line.

Diedre Alexander hit a huge three in the beginning of the fourth quarter to open the Tigers lead to 51-47 but StFX came firing right back. Chelsea Provo completed a three-point play to cut the lead to one after a nice drive to the bucket.

Stammberger remained hot hitting a deep three-pointer, opening the Tigers lead to 54-50. Dalhousie then went on a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach for the X-Women, taking the game by a final score of 69-57.

Lindsay Lessard led the X-Women with 17 points and 7 boards, while Stammberger had a monster game for Dalhousie with 30 points and 9 rebounds.

Next up on the Tigers (4-5) schedule is a doubleheader against the UNB Varsity Reds (5-3) in New Brunswick on January 15 & 16. StFX (1-6) host the Varsity Reds Saturday, January 9th in Antigonish.
