X-Women defeat Tommies in tourney action

Halifax, NS – The X-Women picked up their third consecutive win at the MSVU Dyrick McDermott Invitational with a 58-55 victory over the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday night.

The first half was a low scoring affair as the X-Women led 9-6 after the first quarter and were tied 24-24 with the Tommies at halftime.

The blue and white held a slim 39-37 lead after the third quarter and outscored the Tommies 19-18 in the final quarter to hang on for the win.

Lindsay Lessard was the high scorer for StFX with 17 points. She also contributed three rebounds, four assists and one block. Player of the game Shannon Hatch scored 14 points and had four rebounds. Courtney Kilyk netted eight points for the X-Women.

For the Tommies, Jayme Hunt and Carissa McTague each scored 10 points.

With a 3-0 record in round robin play, the X-Women advance to the tournament championship game at 1:00 pm on Sunday versus the host team Mount Saint Vincent Mystics (1-2).
