Sea-Hawks down X-Women 65-59

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the StFX X-Women 65-59 on Saturday evening in AUS women's basketball at the Field House. The four-point game was the first of the season between the two teams.

In the opening quarter it was the X-Women on the board first, maintaining a lead over the home team and finishing the first up 16-8. In the second quarter the Sea-Hawks outshot the X-Women 28-10 allowing them to pull ahead by 10 points going into the half with a score of 36-26.

In the third quarter the Sea-Hawks maintained their lead, finishing the quarter 52-36. The X-Women came back strong in the fourth, outshooting Memorial by 10 points but it wasn't enough to make up for the Sea-Hawks early domination. The home team fended off the visitors taking the game 65-59.

Subway AUS Player of the Game, Megan Robinson (Waterloo, O.N.), had a team-high 17 points for the winners. Tianna Brown (Douglas, A.Z.) contributed 13 of her own and 11 rebounds.

The X-Women were led by Lindsay Lessard (Waterloo, O.N.) with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Kolbi Roper (North Vancouver, B.C) was close behind with 15 points and five rebounds.

Memorial improves to 6-7 on the season while StFX falls to 4-10.

Both teams will be back on the court Sunday for their second game of the double header series at 11am.
