X-Women basketball welcomes Carolyn Smith

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX women's basketball head coach Augy Jones is pleased to welcome Montreal native, 5'6" point guard Carolyn Smith to the X-Women program for the 2014-15 season.

"Carolyn is the epitome of an all-around athlete," comments Coach Jones. "She is fast, strong, plays with intensity and competes constantly."

"I went to see her play this past season and she had a triple-double in the game, she was literally all over the court and I was thoroughly impressed. The type of energy Carolyn brings to the game is exactly the type of player we are recruiting going forward. Our fans will enjoy watching Carolyn play and we are excited to have her join our program."

Smith attended Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ont. and was awarded most valuable player honors in each of her grade 10, 11 and 12 seasons. She also won the Distinction & Leadership awards all three years. Her basketball experience includes time with the Dawson Blues Midget AAA club team out of Montreal, and she received the 'hustle award' at Trevor Williams' Basketball Camp, also in Montreal.

A multi-sport athlete, Carolyn was the most valuable player of the soccer team and the most improved player with the hockey team at Trinity College School. Prior to her time in Port Hope, she attended The Study in Montreal where she participated in tennis, touch football, track & field and cross country.

An honor roll student in high school, Smith will be enrolled in business administration at StFX. She comments, "I have been hearing amazing things about StFX for several years and I was always very interested in attending."

"When I visited campus last spring, I knew right away that X was a perfect fit for me. I am very excited to be joining the X-Women program next fall and also the StFX community. I couldn't have chosen a better place to spend my next 4 to 5 years."

Smith joins Samantha Robertson as the newest members of the X-Women basketball squad. Robertson indicated her commitment to the X-Women in January.
