X-Women compete for first time at Saint John venue

Saint John, NB – The StFX X-Women competed at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse for the first time on Friday and Saturday at the NB Indoor & University Invitational.

StFX had athletes represented in the 60m, 300m, 600m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, 60m hurdles, and all three relays, along with the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

In Friday night's 60m dash, Lani Deakin placed second with a time of 8.20. Her teammates Megan Graham and Meg Mary Krawchuk tied for third at 8.28 and Jessica Clarke as fifth at 8.37. In the same event Saturday Dakin placed fifth with am 8.39 clocking.  

In the 60m hurdles, Graham and Oliva Crewe came 1-2 for StFX. Graham's time was 9.44 and Crewe registered 9.56.

The 300m sprint featured six X-Women competitors with Catherine Kennedy earning a third place result with a time of 42.56. She was followed by Graham (5th, 43.06), Clarke (6th, 43.61), Krawchuk (7th, 44.63), Michella Vava (8th, 44.98) and Mira alexander (9th, 45.12).

Kennedy won top spot in the 600m race, finishing with a time of 1>37.77. Alexander was 4th at 1:45.02 and Vava came 9th at 1:53.86.

In the 1000m event, Jane Hergett won the race with a 2:50.08 finish. Her X-Women teammates Aidan MacDonald (3:05.66) and Paige Chisholm (3:05.82) came fourth and fifth, respectively.

Tanna Burke (5:19.33) and Kali Beaton (5:22.06) came first and second in the 1500m race for age 18-19, while in the same race for age 20-34 Zoe Johnson (5:03.36) came fourth overall. Breanna Sandluck (5:07.17) was 7th and Ellen Taggart (5:20.28) was 10th.

Johnson was also the top X finisher in the 3000m, crossing the line in sixth place with a time of 10:46.84. Sandluck (10:53.40) followed in 8th place, while Beaton (11:08.01), Taggart (11:15.76) and Burke (11:21.37) were 13th through 15th.

The X-Women ran two teams in the 4x200m with the 'A' team claiming first place in a time of 1:49.72 and the 'B' squad second at 1:53.57.

With three teams in the 4x400m, the X-Women 'A' team were first at 4:09.47, with the 'B' (4:35.78) and 'C' (4:36.75) teams fourth and fifth.

The lone StFX 4x800m team was first overall with a time of 9:22.36.

In the jumping events, Riley Van den Heuvel claimed top spot in the high jump with a 1.50m jump. Crewe was second at 1.45m and Erin Brennan fourth with a 1.35m result.

Deakin placed second overall in the long jump with a 5.07m. She was followed by X-Women teammates Van den Heuvel (5th, 4.91m), Brennan (6th, 4.77m) and Brennan (7th, 4.68m). Deakin also competed in the triple jump and with a 10.47m jump was third.

The X-Women will be back in action next Saturday, February 8th competing at the SMU Open in Halifax before returning to Saint John February 21-22 for the Subway AUS Championship.
