Windsor, ON – A pair of X-Women athletes represented StFX University at the U SPORTS national championship over the weekend.
Fourth year sprinter Allie Flower from Lunenburg, NS competed in the 300m event on Friday evening amidst a field of 13 runners. The AUS champion in the event clocked in with a time of 40.75 which put her fourth in her heart and 11th overall. The top eight runners advanced to the final.
Kelsey Balkwill from the host Windsor won the final with a time of 38.46, followed by Tessa Hamilton of Guelph at 38.88 and Caroline Stricelj of Western (39.20). Flower was the only AUS runner in the race.
Fifth year X-Women jumper/sprinter Hayley Wilson, the AUS champion in the triple jump, was scheduled to compete in the same event at the U SPORTS championship. The lone AUS competitor in the 13-person field, Wilson unfortunately pulled a hamstring muscle and was a late scratch from the event, unable to compete.
On Friday evening, X-Men distance runner Angus Rawling made history racing to a gold medal performance in the 3000m race. His victory was the first ever gold medal for a StFX track & field athlete at the U SPORTS championship. The full story on Rawling's performance can be found by clicking here.
