Track team competes in final regular season meet

Halifax, NS – The X-Women and X-Men track & field team competed at the SMU Open on Saturday at the Halifax Canada Games Centre in the final regular season meet prior to the upcoming AUS championship.

Several X-Women had top three performances in their respective events. Freshman sprinter Megan Graham placed first in both the 60m hurdles (9.33) and 60m dash (8.14), in both of the age 18-19 category races.

Emma Floris was second in the age 18-19 60m dash with an 8.19 and she won the 300m race (age 18-19) with a 42.78 finish.

In the women's 60m hurdles (age 20-34), Abbi Finnan took hoe top honors with a time of 9.11 while Catherine Kennedy was third at  9.74. Finnan also came third in the 60m dash (age 20-34) with an 8.01 clocking. StFX's Jillian Murphy won the 60m dash at 7.84.

Olivia Malone had a pair of podium finishes in the age 18-19 races. She came third in both the 300m and 600m with times of 46.14 and 1:47.07, respectively.

In the 300m dash (age 20-34), Allie Flower came third (41.79) and followed up with a second place showing in the 600m dash (1:38.28). Kevyn Timmons (1:43.04) was third in the 600m and ran to a first place finish in the 1000m race, crossing the line at 3:20.29.

Hana Marmura placed third overall in the 1500m (age 20-34) race with a time of 4:51.02.

In the women's jumping events, Deneisha Bagot placed second in the high jump with a 1.50m result. Hayley Wilson was first in the triple jump (11.29m) and third in the long jump (5.26m), while Baillie Marcotte placed second in the triple jump (10.21m).

The men's jumping events saw Garrette VanderSlyk (6.08m) and Keithan Linden (5.23m) place first and third, respectively in the long jump (age 18-19). Kirishnia Cooper placed second in the long jump (age 20-34) with a 6.01m jump, followed up with a first place performance in the triple jump at 12.47m.

In the men's 60m hurdles, Jonathan Heidebrecht came second with a time of 9.46.

Adrian Kinney kept up his fast pace this season, winning the 60m dash with a 6.99 showing. Jonathan West was second at 7.01 and Linden won the same event in the age 18-19 category with a 7.46.

Kinney won his second race of the day in the 300m, clocking in at 36.17. X-Men teammates Andrew Bain (36.41) and West (36.42) were right behind him in second and third places.

Tim Brennan took home third place in the 600m race with a 1:24.38 result and Addison Derhak was first overall in the 1500m (age 18-19) at 4:17.58.

Rounding out the X-men results was a top-three sweep in the 3000m with Angus Rawling (8:25.80), Alex Cyr (8:25.86) and Paul MacLellan (8:49.74) coming 1-2-3.

The StFX track squad will have a weekend off before competing in the Subway AUS Championship, being held February 25-26 in Moncton.
