(St. John's, NL) – The StFX X-Men defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 1-0 Saturday night at King George V Field.

StFX came into tonight's matchup with 26 goals on the season, which is tied for the third highest total in the AUS this season. The X-Men looked poised to add to those totals in the first half of action outshooting the Sea-Hawks 12-2. The X-Men also registered 11 corner kicks to none for the Sea-Hawks going into the break.

Hawks keeper Sam Hawco (Mount Pearl, NL) was up to the challenge, making three stops to keep the Sea-Hawks in it.

The X-Men were led by a balanced attack, with both William Warren (Windsor, NS) and Ben Herringer (Calgary, AB) taking three shots each, while Josh Read (Bath, England) added another two for the visitors.

StFX keeper Seamus MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) wasn't tested often, but did make a great save on a shot from Sea-Hawks midfielder Ben Stone (CBS, NL) late in the half to keep the game scoreless.

The X-Men were able to continue their pressure in the second half, once again outshooting the Sea-Hawks. StFX finished the game with 19 total shots compared to four for the Hawks.

Despite the flurry of activity in front of the Sea-Hawks net, the game remained scoreless 20 minutes into the second half. The X-Men were able to break the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty kick after Sea-Hawks defender Michael O'Brien (Mount Pearl, NL) committed a foul in the box.

Tane Caubo (London, England) converted the PK to give the X-Men a 1-0 advantage. The X-Men would hold steady for the remainder of the game to secure the victory.

Midfielder Liam Elbourne (Halifax, NS) was named the Subway Player of the Game from StFX.

The Sea-Hawks and X-Men will return to the pitch tomorrow afternoon at 3:15pm. The game will be webcast live on www.AUStv.ca.
