Capers defeat X-Men 3-0

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers (8-0-2) remain undefeated on the season after they handed their rival StFX X-Men (6-3-1) a 3-0 loss on a chilly Friday evening at CBRCH field.

Cory Bent (Preston, UK) scored a pair of goals and Joel Eckert-Ayensa rounded out the scoring for the home team.

Bent's first goal of the game came in the 16th minute and Eckert-Ayensa tallied in the 24th monute to give the Capers a 2-0 lead at halftime. Bent scored his second goal very early in the second half in the 46th minute of play. Ben Jackson (Bury, UK) earned the victory in the keepers net with a clean sheet.

Bent received Subway player of the game honours.

With the win the Capers move to into sole possession of first place in the AUS standings with 26 points, five ahead of second place Acadia. The X-Men sit in fourth place, one point shy of Dalhousie and two points back of Acadia.

All four teams have already clinched berths at the upcoming Subway AUS Championship being hosted at Cape Breton Nov. 1-4. The Capers have already clinched a bye into the semifinals while the second bye is still up for grabs with one weekend left of AUS regular season play.

CBU will next travel to Sackville, NB on Sunday to play Mount Allison, while StFX will finish the season in Newfoundland next weekend when they play Memorial in a pair of games.
