X-Men and Capers play to scoreless draw

Sydney, NS – The StFX X-Men and Cape Breton Capers played to a 0-0 scoreless draw Friday evening in AUS soccer action.

It marked the third tie of the season for the X-Men who now sit in fifth place in the AUS standings with a 3-2-3 record. The Capers (5-1-3) are in first place.

The X-Men had seven shots in the game but couldn't find the back of the net. StFX goalkeeper Thomas Pieroway made four saves while Capers netminder Scott Shewfelt had two.

X-Men head coach Graham Kennedy commented, "It was a hard-earned point for the X-Men tonight. Both teams traded several chances and goalkeeping and defending was stellar at both ends of the park. Liam Elbourne had the best chance of the game when he headed a Joe Ward cross off the bar midway through the second half."

"Both teams had opportunities to win the game through injury time with centre backs Serge Dossou and Dustin Bennetti standing tall in the X-Men penalty area. A near miss by Randy Ribeiro followed by a Kareem Henry header off a last second free kick almost sealed the win for the X-Men."

StFX will have a day off before travelling to Halifax on Sunday afternoon to meet the Dalhousie Tigers (4-2-3) in a 3:15pm match at Wickwire Field.
