X-Men and Panthers tie in AUS soccer action

The StFX X-Men played to a 1-1 draw with the UPEI Panthers in AUS soccer action Sunday afternoon in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

The teams were held scoreless for the first half and throughout most of the second half until a quick exchange of goals late in the game.

Former X-Men midfielder Dylan MacKenzie, playing now for UPEI, scored unassisted off a free kick in the 79th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0.

The X-Men responded quickly, however, as freshman midfielder Liam Elbourne (Halifax, N.S.) scored an unassisted strike for StFX two minutes later.

The score remained tied through regulation as the X-Men moved to 1-1-1 on the season.

Sam Hutchison (Victoria, B.C.) minded the StFX net, recording six saves in the game, while Trevor White had two saves for the Panthers.

The X-Men (1-1-1) are in a three-way tie for fifth place in a close AUS conference early in the season. Next on the schedule is a Friday night game in Wolfville, N.S. versus the Acadia Axemen (3-0-0), followed by a Sunday afternoon match against Dalhousie (2-1-0) at StFX Oland Stadium at 3:15 pm.

The Panthers (1-1-2) will travel to New Brunswick for games against UNB and Moncton, also on Friday and Sunday.
