X-Men blank Aigles Bleus 4-0

Moncton, NB – The STFX X-Men shutout the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-0 in AUS hockey action Friday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Both squads currently sit with 21 points in the AUS standings - tied for fourth place – with identical 10-10-1-0 records.

The seventh place Dalhousie Tigers (3-16-1-1) will face the Aigles Bleus Saturday, while the X-Men will travel on to Fredericton to play the first place UNB Reds (17-3-0-1).

In Friday's game, X-Men goaltender Joseph Raaymakers was named the Subway player of the game with 42 saves in front of the net for the shutout win. His counterpart at the other end of the ice Étienne Montpetit saw 37 pucks for the loss.

In the first period, the X-Men scored two goals off the sticks of Josh Nelson and Conner Bruggen-Cate at the 3:13 and 9:55 minute marks, respectively.

The X-Men opened the scoring early on in the second period with Jacob Hudson 46 seconds in, followed closely by Dallas Farrell two minutes later to take the 4-0 advantage, which held through to the end of the period.

The third period was scoreless for both squads as Raaymakers continued his strong play, stopping all 17 Moncton shots he faced in the final frame.  

Moncton was 0 for 3 on the power play in the game and the X-Men 0 for 2.

The puck drops at 7:00 pm in both Saturday night games when AUS action resumes.
