  • Danielle Franada and Liam Hawel named StFX student-athletes of the year

    The StFX Athletic Department honored the athletic accomplishments of their varsity athletes this week at the Athletic Awards Gala held Friday evening at the Amelia Saputo Centre. X-Women Rugby fullback Danielle Franada was named the StFX Female Student-Athlete of the Year, while X-Men Hockey forward Liam Hawel received StFX Male Student-Athlete of the Year honors. The StFX Female Community X-Cellence award was co-awarded to Chloe Oleksiuk (X-Women Hockey) and Alyssa Spridgeon (X-Women Soccer), while Bailey Wasdal from X-Men Football was the winner of the StFX Male Community X-Cellence award.
  • Liam Hawel named U SPORTS men's hockey rookie of the year; joins Centorame and Struthers as All-Canadians

    X-Men forward Liam Hawel was honoured as the U SPORTS men's hockey rookie of the year, along with being named as a U SPORTS first team all-Canadian and all-rookie. Forward Matthew Struthers and defenceman Santino Centorame were named second team all-Canadians.

    STFX Athletics is encouraging individuals to sign up for the stem cell registry in support of Gail Stewart - STFX alumnus, local hockey mom and wife of our X-Men Hockey assistant coach Dave Stewart. She is currently in a fight against leukemia and needs a matching donor for a stem cell infusion.

  • X-Men defeat Panthers in penalty-filled affair

    The StFX X Men won big in their final home game of the regular season, cruising to a 5-1 victory over the visiting UPEI Panthers in a penalty-filled affair at the Charles V. Keating Centre. The U SPORTS no. 4 ranked X-Men scored twice on the powerplay and added in a shorthanded marker for good measure.

  • X-Men top Huskies 7-4

    STFX men’s hockey captain Santino Centorame (Mississauga, ON) had a two goal night in the X Men's 7-4 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies on Sunday. It was the first game back at the Charles V. Keating Centre for the U SPORTS No. 4 ranked X Men since late November.
  • Hockey X-Men resume AUS action with 3-2 victory over Axemen

    AUS hockey was back on Wolfville Saturday night for the first time since the end of the November. The home team Axemen were unable to capitalize on their early lead in the game and ended up falling 3-2 to the StFX X-Men.

    The Dalhousie Tigers men’s defeated the STFX X-Men 4-2 at the Halifax Forum Wednesday night. The win ended their two-game losing streak, and moved them into a tie for third place in the AUS men’s hockey standings.

    Three STFX hockey student-athletes are heading to Lucerne, Switzerland for the FISU Winter Universiade in December as members of team Canada. X-Women hockey forward Tyra Meropoulis and X-Men forwards Liam Hawel and Matthew Struthers will be skaing up for their respective teams at the event.
