ANTIGONISH, NS StFX men's hockey head coach Brad Peddle is pleased to announce the first committed recruit of 2020-21 in defenseman Patrick (Patty) Kyte.

"We are very pleased to be adding Patty to our X-Men hockey program," comments Coach Peddle. "He is an excellent defenceman that plays a very well rounded two-way game. He is a tremendous skater who moves the puck very well, but is also very dependable in his own end."

He continues, "Patty is fierce competitor who plays extremely hard every night, and was an outstanding leader on a very good Halifax team, and now with another strong team in Chicoutimi. He is a high character individual and a very good student. Adding him to our program has always been a top priority and we look forward to seeing him in the blue and white next season."

The 5'11", 172 pound defenseman played three seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), tallying 69 points in 156 career games. An assistant captain with the team, he was traded this past December to playoff contender Chicoutimi Saguenéens where he currently has four points in seven games played.

Kyte is a native of Pembroke, Ont., and has many immediate and extended family members who are StFX alumni. His father Murray Kyte is the current Vice President, Advancement, and Patty's grandfather John 'Tink' Kyte is a member of the StFX Sports Hall of Fame as a multi-sport athlete who played for X in the 1940s.

He looks forward to following in the tradition of excellence at StFX, commenting, "Attending StFX as a student and an athlete will be an honour and privilege for me. Not only is the school one of the best universities in the country, it's also where my grandfathers, parents and siblings all attended, along with many other extended family members. I am very excited to be joining the X-Men hockey program which is known around major junior hockey as one of the tops in the country."
