Jagger Dirk signs one year contract with AHL’s Utica Comets

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX X-Men hockey defenseman Jagger has signed a one year contract with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL), as announced by the club this week.

X-Men head coach Brad Peddle commented, "We are extremely pleased for the opportunities that Jagger continues to be provided in the professional game. He worked very hard over his four years at StFX in every aspect to develop his game, and is very deserving of this contract and we wish him all the best."

Previous to this opportunity with Utica, the 25 year old Dirk signed an amateur try-out in late March with the Binghamton Devils, playing in seven games and registering one point (0-1-1). He recently returned to campus for convocation where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

A two-time AUS all-star, and a 2018 U SPORTS first team All-Canadian, Jagger Dirk was a leader on the X-Men blue line for the past four seasons where he totaled 73 points (15 goals, 58 assists) in 114 games played. He was a key member of the X-Men teams who won back-to-back AUS championships in 2016 and 2017, along with their recently earned U SPORTS silver medal at the University Cup national championship, where he also received tournament all-star recognition.

The Utica Comets finished the 2017-18 season with a 38-26-8 record in fourth place in the AHL's North Division. They lost to the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.
