X-Men fall to Panthers 5-3

Charlottetown, PE – A four point night by player of the game Panther forward Marcus Power propelled the UPEI to an exciting 5-3 over the X-Men in front of over 800 fans at MacLauchlan Arena.

StFX opened the scoring 44 seconds into the game with Steven Kuhn taking advantage of a good bounce, assisted by Brad Cuzner.

At the mid-way point of the first period the Panthers tied the game with Nelson Armstrong making a nice stretch pass putting Power on a breakaway for the goal.  The Panthers took the lead with 3:01 remaining in the period on a Ryan MacKinnon goal, assisted by Chad Labelle and Nick Parker.

The X-Men tied the game 3-3 in the second period with goals by Adam Steves (unassisted) and Michael Clarke assisted by Aaron Hayles and Nathan Chiarlitti. The lone Panther goal in the middle frame was scored by Sam Aulie, assisted by Nick Czinder and Power.

The Panthers came out forechecking hard in the third and carried the play for much of the period.  At 14:41 the Panthers fourth goal was Aulie's second of the game assisted by Power. With 5:30 remaining in the game, Power from Armstrong, made a saucer pass to Nick Czinder to put the Panthers ahead 5-3 for the win.

Mavric Parks made 28 saves for the win, while Brandon Hope turned aside 29 saves in the loss.

The Panthers return to action this Wednesday, October 21 when they visit Moncton, game time 7:00 pm.

The X-Men's next game is also Wednesday, October 21 when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies in Antigonish.  Puck drop is 7:00 pm.
