X-Men pick up another exhibition victory

Wolfville, NS – The STFX X-Men improved to 5-2 on the pre-season schedule with a 73-63 exhibition win over the Acadia Axemen Saturday night at War Memorial gymnasium.

The X-Men got out to a 25-21 lead after the first quarter and maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.

The upped their lead to 35-42 at halftime thanks to a 17-14 second quarter advantage.

The second half was closer at 31-28 in favour of the X-Men with low scoring third (16-14 STFX) and fourth (15-14 STFX) frames.  

Leading the X-Men offensively was Antoine Vernon with 20 points, along with seven rebounds.

Jamie White scored 12 and had five rebounds while Handy Disnaka netted 10 and had five boards as well.

Gatluak James and Justin Andrew scored 10 and nine, respectively off the STFX bench.

Eli Krausher was the top Axemen scorer with 13 points. Alex Muise and Rowan Power each contributed 10 points apiece.

Next up on the X-Men schedule will be the STFX Coach K Invitational on October 23rd and 24th. On Saturday, October 23rd, Cape Breton and Dalhousie will play in the first semifinal at 6:00 pm, following by the X-Men and UNB at 8:00 pm.

The semifinal losers will play Sunday at 6:00 pm, followed by the two winners at 8:00 pm in the championship game.

The AUS regular season begins on October 29th with an 8:00 pm game in Fredericton against UNB.
