Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Men picked up an 88-67 victory over the UPEI Panthers in pre-season exhibition action Saturday afternoon at Coach K Court.
The X-Men established an early lead in the game and did not relinquish it.
The three pointers falling early on for the X-Men as Avan Nava and Jamie White were sharp for X in the opening minutes of the game.
StFX held a 22-11 lead with under four minutes to play in the opening frame, closing out the quarter with a 31-18 advantage.
The second quarter was closer in scoring as the teams traded baskets and STFX holding a 21-19 edge.
Halftime closed out with the blue and white up 52-37.
The STFX defense stepped up in the third quarter, holding the Panthers to only 11 points as they upped their lead to a commanding 78-48 after three quarters of play.
The Panthers won the fourth quarter 19-10 but the lead was too much to overcome as the X-Men took home the 88-67 win.
STFX had a well-balanced offensive effort as David Muenkat, White and Nava all contributed 15 points apiece. Justin Andrew netted 12.
For the Panthers Jonas Kessler scored a game-high 23 points and Kamari Scott added 10.
UPEI will next see action when they take on Saint Mary's in Halifax on October 17th.
The X-Men will play host to Memorial on Thursday evening, October 14th in a 7:00 pm tip-off.
