X-Men Basketball to welcome Matt Pennell

Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Men Basketball program is excited to welcome point guard Matt Pennell to the roster for the 2020-21 season.

X-Men assistant coach (and incoming head coach) Tyrell Vernon notes, "Matt will be bringing toughness, elite work ethic and a superior basketball IQ to our X-Men basketball program. He understands the process of what an elite athlete has to sacrifice and he will be a big part of our program going forward."

The 6'1" point guard from St. John's, Nfld played at Rothesay Netherwood School in New Brunswick where he was team captain and most valuable player this past season, after having played an undefeated season in 2019-20. In his senior year Pennell averaged 18.6 points/game, 5.0 assists/game and 6.0 rebounds/game.

An academic honor roll student for the past three years, Pennell was a member of Team Newfoundland for six years where he went to nationals on four occasions. He led the national tournament in assists in his final year, and has been the recipient of the Premiers Athletic Award in Newfoundland for the past two years.
