X-Men defeat Sea-Hawks in second weekend game

Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Men (8-10) defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks (5-13) for the second time this weekend, playing to a 92-62 victory Sunday afternoon at the StFX Oland Centre.

The X-Men used their entire line-up in the game and saw a 40-point contribution from the bench including Subway player of the game Nick Russell (Mississauga, ON) who scored 16 points.

Justin Andrew (Hamilton, ON) had a big game for the X-Men as he was 6-for-8 from the three-point line, accounting for all of his 18 points on the afternoon. He also had six rebounds, six assists, a pair of steals and a block.

The home team got out to a 28-17 lead after a fast-paced first quarter, then built up a 45-33 lead at halftime.

The X-Men continued their strong play in the second half, outscoring the Sea-Hawks 19-9 in the third quarter and 28-20 in the fourth en route to the win.

Veteran fifth year center Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) scored 17 points and added six rebounds and a pair of steals. Tristen Ross (Truro, NS) scored 11 points, including nine points from beyond the three-point arc. The X-Men had 13 total treys on the day.

Daniel Passley (Mississauga, ON) with nine and Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) with seven, led the team in rebounding.

Leading the Sea-Hawks was player of the game Daniel Gordon (North York, ON) and Chris Dobbin (Corner Brook, NF) off the bench who each scored 11. Davion Parnsalu (Ajax, ON) netted nine points and led in rebounds with five, while Jason Thompson (St. John's, NL) contributed eight points and four rebounds.

Memorial returns home to host the Saint Mary's Huskies in a pair of games during the last weekend of AUS regular season play. Friday, February 23rd the Huskies will tip-off at 8:00 pm in St. John's, followed by a 2:00 pm game on Saturday.

The X-Men will take to the road for a pair of games against UPEI and UNB, also on Friday and Saturday.

The Subway AUS Championship is slated for March 2-4 at the Halifax Scotiabank Centre.
