X-Men top rival Capers 102-91

Sydney, NS – The Capers gave a valiant effort Wednesday and it nearly paid off. They were tight with the X-Men most of the night until a stretch in the third quarter when StFX pulled away for a 102-91 win. The Capers fall to 0-7 with the loss, while the X-Men improve to 3-3.

Cape Breton were led by the leading scorer Kenny Jean-Louis (Montreal, QC) who finished with 20 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. Junior Moaku-Matia (Hamilton, ON) also had a strong game with 16 points and four rebounds.  Jack MacAulay was 3-for-5 from downtown and chipped in two rebounds and one assist.

The X-Men out-rebounded the Capers 51-30 which led to 16 second chance points. Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) led X in scoring with 20 points and 15 rebounds. StFX also had six other players score in double digits in a balanced attack.

Justin Andrew scored 16 off the bench and added seven rebounds and four assists, while Julius Antoine netted 15 points for the X-Men. Akil Charles scored 14 points and dished six assists, Davonte Provo scored 12 and Cameron Walker and Daniel Passley each contributed 10 points.

The X-Men held a 42-38 advantage at halftime as they outpaced the Capers 26-16 in the second quarter.

Next on the AUS schedule for StFX is a home game Saturday night as they host Saint Mary's in an 8 pm game. The Capers have wrapped up play for the first half and will break until January. Second term play resumes on January 6th when they host UNB.
