X-Men defeat host Capers at Fall Classic tourney

Sydney, NS – The StFX X-Men won their second consecutive game at the Cape Breton Fall Classic with a 104-88 victory over the host Cape Breton Capers Friday evening at Centre 200.

The X-Men got out to a 24-18 lead after the first quarter and held a nine-point advantage, 55-46 at halftime.

The Capers fought back in the third quarter reducing the lead as low as three points, but the X-Men responded right back and were up 76-66 after 30 minutes. The visitors used a strong shooting fourth quarter, outscoring the Capers 28-22 en route to the win.

The X-Men had five players in the double scoring digits, led by Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) with 22 points and six rebounds. Akil Charles (Glenn Dale, MD) scored 17 and Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) netted 13 and hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds for a double-double night.

Tristen Ross (Truro, NS) added 12 points for the X-Men and Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) scored 10.  

The Capers were led by Seth Amoah (Montreal, QC) who scored 17 points and Kyle Hankins (Burlington, ON) with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

The win places the X-Men in the final game Sunday night at 7pm against the Acadia Axemen. The Capers will play at 5pm against St. Mary's.
