X-Men drop close game to Citadins

Halifax, NS – The X-Men basketball team dropped their second game at the Dalhousie Shoveller Invitational tournament Saturday afternoon, losing 91-83 to the UQAM Citadins in the consolation semifinals.

After the Citadins got out to leads of 26-17 and 43-36 after the first and second quarters, the X-Men battled back to outscore UQAM 29-23 in the third quarter to hold a 66-65 edge after 30 minutes of play.

Charles Miller was clutch for UQAM in the deciding fourth quarter, hitting consecutive three-pointers midway through the frame to give his team a nine-point lead. The X-Men came back to put the game within three points but ran out of time.

The Citadins were led by Greishe Clerjuste who scored 25 points as was 3-for-7 from three-point range. UQAM netted ten of the three-point treys in the game. Kewyn Blain scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds.

Miller netted 18 off the bench for the Citadins including 15 points from beyond the three-point arc. Davidson Joseph added nine points, five rebounds and eight assists.

For the X-Men, Kevin Bercy had a double-double game, scoring 20 points and hauling in a game-high 16 rebounds. He added three assists and two blocks. Julius Antoine scored 16 for X and had six boards and three assists, while Davonte Provo netted 14 and four rebounds and five assists. Alastair Cole contributed 11 points.

The X-Men will now play in the seventh place game on Sunday morning at 9:00 am versus Mount Saint Vincent.
