Panthers defeat X-Men in tournament quarter-finals

Halifax, NS – In quarter-final action at the Dalhousie Shoveller Invitational tournament, the StFX X-Men were defeated 93-70 by the UPEI Panthers. The exhibition game marked the first time the X-Men have seen the court since AUS regular season play wrapped up on November 28th.

The first quarter saw the X-Men outscore the Panthers by a 19-17 margin, then the Panthers held a 39-34 edge at halftime.

UPEI outscored the X-Men 54-36 in the second half en route to the win. They were 52.2% from field goal range compared to the X-Men's 42.6%.

Bradley States led the Panthers with 22 points and six rebounds while Tyler Scott scored 19 and had five boards. Dud Dut scored 15 and led the team with seven rebounds, Zachary Usherwood netted 14 and Lorenzo Parker scored 12 off the bench for UPEI.

Leading the X-Men was Kevin Bercy with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Julius Antoine and Davonte Provo each scored 10 points. Provo was 2 for 2 from three-point range. Cameron Walker contributed nine points for the blue and white.

With the loss the X-Men are relegated to the consolation side of the tournament bracket. They will face UQAM Saturday at 1:00 pm in the first consolation semifinal. Acadia and MSVU will meet in the other at 3:00 pm.

The quarter-final winners will play Saturday at 6:00 pm (Saint Mary's vs UPEI) and 8:00 pm (Concordia vs Dalhousie).
