Hoop X-Men fall to Gee Gee's

Halifax, NS – In the semi-final game at the Dalhousie Rod Shoveller exhibition tournament the CIS ranked No.2 Ottawa Gee Gee's defeated the StFX X-Men by an 89-71 margin.

After a close scoring first half that saw the Gee Gee's take a 45-43 lead into half-time, the OUA school outscored their AUS counterparts 44-28 I the second half to take the victory. Ottawa pulled away after a 26-13 third quarter.

Gee Gee's guard  Johnny Berhanemeskel  was the high scorer in the game with 21 points while player of the game Mike L'Africain scored 18 points and had 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Berhanemeskel had 5 boards and 3 steals in the game and drained 4 treys, as did L'Africain.

The Gee Gee's scored 48 of their 89 points from the three-point line.

Caleb Agada added 13 points and 9 rebounds for Ottawa and Vikas Gill scored 11.

Replying for StFX were Julius Antoine with 15 points and Jordan Tyrrell with 13. Cameron Walker scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds and Alastair Cole contributed 12 points off the bench.

Shane Coupland added 9 points and 5 rebounds for the X-Men who drop to 1-1 in tournament play.

StFX defeated UPEI in the quarterfinals 84-82.

They will meet the McGill Redmen Sunday at 1:00 pm in the third place game. The Redmen are coming off a 64-50 loss to the host Dalhousie Tigers.

The Tigers and Gee Gee's will play for the 24th annual Rod Shoveller tournament title at 3:00 pm.
