X-Men fall to Huskies in AUS hoops season opener

Halifax, NS - The Saint Mary's Huskies cruised to a 98-62 win over the StFX X-Men in the season opener of the AUS basketball season Saturday night at the Homburg Centre.

The Huskies led the X-Men 29-12 after the first quarter and 51-29 at halftime.

Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) led three StFX players in double figures with 15 points, while Alex Arthur (Toronto, ON) and Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The trio also led the X-Men with four rebounds apiece, while Bercy added two blocked shots.

Osman Barrie scored a game-high 19 points for Saint Mary's, with Brian Rouse adding 18.

The Huskies outrebounded the X-Men 31-21, led by 10 rebounds from Barrie.

Saint Mary's shot 71.2 per cent from the field, while StFX hit on 43.5 per cent of their attempts.

Both teams sizzled from the three-point line, with the Huskies connecting 10 out of 11 times, while the X-Men were five-for-six.

The X-Men return to action Wednesday, Nov. 12, when they travel to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axemen. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
