(Halifax) Sports & Entertainment Atlantic (S|E|A), in partnership with the Scotiabank Centre, Dalhousie Athletics and Saint Mary’s Athletics, is pleased to announce the creation of a new, university sport event for the city of Halifax!
Varsity Showdown 2016 will bring Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s, St.FX and Acadia together for two (2) regular season men’s hockey games on Friday, January 29th and two (2) women’s and men’s regular season basketball doubleheaders on Saturday, January 30th; all at the Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax.
“Varsity Showdown 2016 will provide a terrific platform to showcase the amazing product and inspiring athletes participating in AUS hockey and basketball,” said Derek Martin, President of S|E|A, producers of the CIS University Cup and the recently awarded CIS Final 8. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s to bring their home games to the Scotiabank Centre where we know we can deliver an outstanding entertainment experience to students, alumni and fans”.
The schedule for Varsity Showdown 2016 will be:
Friday, January 29th
4:00pm – StFX X-Men vs. Dalhousie Tigers: Men’s Hockey
8:00pm – Acadia Axemen vs. Saint Mary’s Huskies: Men’s Hockey
Saturday, January 30th
1:00pm – StFX X-Women vs. Saint Mary’s Huskies: Women’s Basketball
3:00pm – StFX X-Men vs. Saint Mary’s Huskies: Men’s Basketball
6:00pm – Acadia Axewomen vs. Dalhousie Tigers: Women’s Basketball
8:00pm – Acadia Axemen vs. Dalhousie Tigers: Men’s Basketball
”This is a community that loves and supports university sport – we’ve seen that time and again,” said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of Trade Centre Limited, operators of the Scotiabank Centre. “With such an exciting line up of men’s and women’s sport, this promises to be an unforgettable weekend full of good competition.”
Tickets will be available through Ticket Atlantic on Friday, December 18th at 9am. Each hockey game will be priced at $10 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Each basketball doubleheader will be priced at $15 for adults and $7.50 for youth and seniors. Full event passes will include all four events (6 total games) are also available at the price of $40 for adults and $20 for youth and seniors. All prices include HST but are subject to a box office ticket fee.
To help Alumni from all four universities enjoy this event, special alumni packages are available that will include the hockey game and basketball doubleheader their school plays in and be priced at $20 for adults and $10 for youth and seniors.
