Fagnan named AUS offensive player of the week

STFX quarterback Silas Fagnan is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8, 2024.

In a tough 24-22 loss to the Acadia Axemen this past weekend, the pivot from Bonnyville, Alta., totalled 256 yards of offense and two touchdowns.

Fagnan completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 175 yards – including a 49-yard touchdown toss to Zachary Houde early in the third quarter, and also carried the ball eight times for 81 yards and a touchdown – a one-yard scamper to open the scoring in the first quarter.

The X-Men will return to the field this Saturday when they host the Mount Allison Mounties in a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Saint Mary's University linebacker Isaiah Okoli is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8, 2024.

The fourth-year Arts student filled up the stat sheet in his team's 33-22 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties this past weekend, recording nine tackles – including two tackles for loss – as well as one forced fumble, one blocked kick and two pass breakups.

Okoli's Huskies will have this weekend off before resuming their AUS schedule on Sept. 20 when they host the STFX X-Men. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Name: Nick Swain
University: Acadia University
Position: Kicker
Hometown: Moncton, NB
Year of eligibility: First
Academic program: Business Administration
Height and weight: 6'1, 165 lbs.

Acadia University kicker Nick Swain is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 8, 2024.

The first-year kicker from Moncton displayed nerves of steel this past weekend, lifting his team to a 24-22 victory over the STFX X-Men by booting a 43-yard field goal with no time left on the clock. It is the first time Acadia has handed the X-Men a loss during the regular season since 2019.

Swain, a Business Administration student, went 3-for-3 with his field goal attempts – also connecting from 32 and 37 yards out in the third quarter. He added a rouge and an extra point to finish the day with 12 points.

The Axemen will ride the momentum from that win into this weekend when they hit the road to take on the 2-0 Bishop's University Gaiters. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
