Bowden, Virtanen & Burnham receive X-Men football athlete of the week honours

McDonald's X-Men Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
X-Men running back Chase Bowden was named the StFX Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27, 2019. Chase, a first year Human Kinetics student from St. Catharine's, ON received player of the game honours in the X-Men's 14-4 win over SMU on Saturday. Chase led the team in rushing with 25 carries for 153 yards, averaging 6.1 yards/rush. He finished the season sixth overall in the AUS in rushing with 95 rushes for 394 total yards, averaging 49.3 yards per game.

X-Men defensive back Cole Virtanen was named the StFX Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27, 2019. Cole, a third year Human Kinetics student (2nd year eligibility) from Nanaimo, BC had a pair of interceptions in the X-Men's 14-4 win over SMU on Saturday, including one 42 yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter that gave StFX a 14-0 lead at the time. His other reception was returned for 11 yards. Cole also had six solo tackles in the game and one forced fumble. He finished the season with 40.5 total tackles, ninth overall in the AUS. 

McDonald's X-Men Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
X-Men kicker/punter Keiran Burnham was named the StFX Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 27, 2019. Keiran, a fifth year Arts student from Cambridge, Ont. had 11 punts for 484 yards in the X-Men's recent 14-4 win over SMU. He averaged 44.0 yards/punt and had three inside the 20 yard line. Keiran also had 4 kick-offs in the game for 205 yards, averaging 51.3 yards/kick, and booted a couple point-after kicks. He finishes the AUS season atop the conference in punting average at 42.8 yards.
