X-Men football helps celebrate African Heritage Month

Members of St. Francis Xavier University's football team made a lasting impression on students at St. Mary's Education Centre/Academy as part of African Heritage Month Celebrations.

StFX students and football players Ron Omara, Charlton Elliott, Sanmi Adereti and Jainyme DaSilveira visited all of the classes in the P-12 school. They spoke to students about the importance of African Heritage Month , racism and bullying and discussed their own personal experiences. Many of the students asked questions as well.

The football players also ate lunch with the students and played games in gym. The day ended with a round table discussion with a number of St. Mary's African Nova Scotian students. Terry Chisholm, vice-principal of the school said the StFX students did a tremendous job and were excellent ambassadors for St. Francis Xavier University and the X-Men Football program.

"On behalf of St. Mary's Education Center we would like to thank the gentlemen for giving up their day to spend time with the youth in our community and giving them a wonderful message," said Mr. Chishom.  "Also we would like to thank their professors for allowing the students to miss time in their classes to visit with our students."

The StFX players made their visit earlier this month.
