StFX athletic therapist Ange Wylie to speak at national conference

StFX assistant therapist Angela Wylie will be speaking at the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) national conference this weekend in Vancouver.

Wylie will be delivering a session on 'Return to Learn' as it relates to concussion, and the role athletic therapists play in this protocol.

"I am excited to be speaking to my colleagues from around the country about this ever evolving field," comments Wylie. "It is important that we stay current on the topic of concussions and educate ourselves to help our student-athletes achieve their best in the classroom. A little time and effort on the part of all involved in a concussion patient's care can result in great success when it comes to a Return to Learn protocol."

Wylie will be entering her seventh year with StFX Athletics this coming fall, having worked alongside Head Athletic Therapist Tara Sutherland who is also very experienced in the study of concussions and has delivered many presentations on the topic herself. Both work alongside longtime StFX team doctor Dr. David Cudmore at the Antigonish Concussion Clinic, counseling and triaging concussed individuals within the community.

A native of Ottawa, Wylie completed her Human Kinetics degree at StFX in 1999 and went on to graduate from York University with a certificate in Athletic Therapy in 2002. After becoming certified in 2002, she took the Head Athletic Therapist position at Trinity Western University for two years. She also has experience working in Japan with Dralion of Cirque du Soleil, as well as with the Ottawa High Performance Center.

This past winter Wylie completed her Master of Education in Policy and Administration at StFX, inspired by seeing her younger patients struggle with academics.
